Minutes of the 27th Annual Conference and Short Course
Nebraska Well Drillers Association
February 19, 20, 21, 1958
Two hundred ten drillers and approximately 165 representatives of 86 manufacturer and jobber firms were registered at our 27th Annual Conference and Short Course. A meeting was held Wednesday at the Agricultural Engineering Building, for the irrigation well drillers, where approximately 100 members attended. The remaining two days of the meeting were held at the Pershing Municipal Auditorium, where 74 firms had exhibits on display.
The Wednesday meeting was opened at 1:00 p.m. with President Harold Elijah, Secretary V. H. Dreeszen, and Director of Short Course E. C. Reed outlining the talks for the afternoon. The program for the technical session Wednesday is included elsewhere in the minutes.
The regular meeting was called to order by President Harold Elijah at 9:00 a.m. Thursday.
The following committees were appointed by the President after the introduction of guests and new members:
Nominations: Art Haggard, Howard Parkert, Erlo Cox, F. D. Salmon
Auditing: Forrest Hanson, Emil Bruns, Charles Condon
Membership: District Chairmen
Condolence: D. E. Foulk, Wayne Haggard, Art Kessler, Jr.
Resolutions: Orval Eikenhorst, Dean Christensen, George Cox
Legislative: Harold Elijah, F. W. Salmon, Frank Cole
Irrigation Well Standards: Floyd Tenney, Fred Salmon, Ted Ayres, Frank Cole, Vance Anderson, Ralph Delong, Kenneth D. Einsel, John Stuchlik, C. L. Wilderman

The group photograph was taken Thursday noon and distributed Friday at 50 cents per picture.
The election of officers was held after the technical session Thursday afternoon. The following officers were elected: Leland Jorgensen, Callaway, President; F. W. Salmon, Wakefield, Vice President; Gerald R. Svoboda, Lincoln, Secretary; H. 0. Parkert, Hooper, Director; J. P. Rahn, Hartington, District Chairman; Charles K. Hedges, Lincoln, reelected Treasurer.
Four hundred twenty-five members and guests attended the Dutch Lunch Thursday evening at the Lincoln Hotel. The program is attached to the minutes. Dr. A. C. Breckenridge, Dean of Faculties, University of Nebraska, gave the main address, "The University and Public Service."
The business meeting was held Friday morning. The meeting was called to order by President Elijah who presented President-elect Leland Jorgenson. President Jorgensen conducted the remainder of the meeting. The minutes of the 1957 meeting were read and approved. The Auditing Committee reported that the Secretary's and Treasurer's books had been examined and were in order. The report was approved.
The Resolutions Committee gave its report which was approved and is included elsewhere in the minutes.
A motion was made and passed by vote that "The Executive Committee study, and recommend a sum of money, to be donated to the Kellogg Center for Continuing Education, and that the recommendation be reported to all members of the Association, and that they be voted on by mail."
A motion was made and passed to give the Women's Association $100.00.
A motion was made and passed by vote, authorizing the new Secretary to write "orders on the Treasurer."
A motion was made and passed authorizing the payment of all outstanding bills.
The dates for the 1959 convention were tentatively set as February 25, 26, and 27, and it was decided to hold the meeting at the Pershing Municipal Auditorium.

Twenty-Seventh Annual Conference and Short Course

RESOLUTIONS:
WHEREAS, E. C. Reed and V. H. Dreeszen of the Conservation and Survey Division, University of Nebraska, for their generous contribution of time and effort in aiding and guiding the 1958 session of the Nebraska Well Drillers Association, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Agricultural Engineering, University of Nebraska, for their contribution concerning the irrigation talks, and
WHEREAS, the manufacturers and jobbers have assisted greatly by interesting exhibits of new materials and supplies and by entertaining the members of the Association at a most enjoyable Dutch Lunch, and
WHEREAS, the past and present officers of the Association for their assistance in making this meeting and meetings of the past a success, and
WHEREAS, the City of Lincoln for its hospitality, and
WHEREAS, all the drillers for their attendance and enthusiasm in the organization,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Nebraska Well Drillers Association assembled at Lincoln, Nebraska, February 19, 20, and 21, 1958, express to each and everyone association with the making of this Convention their sincere appreciation and thanks.
