Minutes of the 1940 Annual Convention
Minutes 1940 Convention Nebraska Well Drillers Association, Thursday, Feb. 29.
The meeting was called to order at 9:30 by President A. A.. Horn, and Doctor Condra welcomed the organization on behalf of the University. The new members were introduced and old acquaintances were renewed. A count of drillers specializing in various types of drilling was made, 13 reporting that they used solid tools, 21 using hydraulic and rotary methods and three use an auger.
Mr. Brown reported on the A. A. W. W. C. convention at St.. Paul stating that the convention was not well attended. The President Mr. J. C. Finkhauser was absent. After a welcome by the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Sherwood of St. Cloud, Minn. talked, each member reported the number and depth of wells drilled. A number of drillers from outlying areas attended.
President Horn discussed licensing arrangements in other states and asked the opinions of the drillers. Mr. Olson reported that at times it might be a good thing.

After lunch at the Chamber of Commerce the afternoon session was called to order by President Horn. Professor Frankforter spoke on "Seeing the Invisible in Water" and carried on a number of tests of solutions of various concentrations of mineral matter.
Professor Schultz showed pictures of fossil collecting in Nebraska and discussed some of the fossils found in the state. Mr. Schultz paper was followed by a trip through the University Museum.
The Dutch Lunch was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Hotel. William Burr, Junior and Richard Hufnagle showed colored pictures of Mexico and further entertainment was provided. Mr. Hageman was chairman of the Manufactures and Jobbers Committee.
The Friday session convened at 9:10 p.m. Mr. Howard Haworth discussed test drilling methods and gave an example of a test drilling program at Fremont, Nebraska.
Mr. Ivan D. Wood spoke on lifting water from wells and concluded that the distance that the distance that water can be lifted profitably depends on climatic conditions, number of acres irrigated, cost of power, type of soil, topography and the irrigators managerial ability.
Mr. Scherer discussed the present status of our groundwater and explained the fluctuation of groundwater levels.
A question box program followed.
The business session followed in the afternoon. The minutes of the last meeting and the secretary and treasurer reports were read and approved. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year.
